What Is Robotics?

Our Game Coaches will teach your children crucial STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) concepts by using our WeDo and NXT Mindstorm Robotics construction sets. Using over 150 pieces per set, including gears, cams, axles, motors, motion and tilt sensors, kids will learn how to enhance creativity, logic, and problem-solving skills to meet challenges through hands-on activities.

How Can Robotics Help Educate Kids?

The basics of programming, engineering and constructing are all part of our robotics program. By building a variety of simple and complex robots and using our supplied laptops, kids can program the robots, controlling its actions, sounds and responses. All the programming is drag-and-drop, making it easy for kids to get started with little or no programming knowledge. Our program enables students to work as young scientists, engineers, mathematicians and creative writers, providing them with the settings, tools and tasks for completing cross-curricular projects.

Our robotics program provides kids with opportunities to develop these broader learning goals:

      - Think creatively to make a working model.
      - Develop vocabulary and communication skills to explain how the model works.
      - Reflect on how to find answers and imagine new possibilities.
      - Brainstorm ideas and endeavor to bring some of them to fruition.
      - Follow 2D drawings to build 3D models.
      - Think logically to create a program to produce a specific behavior.

Here is how our robotics program teaches core STEM concepts:

Science - Trace the transmission of motion and transfer of energy. Identify the simple machine mechanisms at work in the models, including gears, levers and pulleys and how friction can affect the movement of the model.
Technology - Interpret 2D and 3D illustrations and models. Use software media to acquire information. Demonstrate the knowledge and operation of digital tools and technological systems.
Engineering - Build, program and test the models. Modify a model's behavior by changing the mechanical system or by adding a sensor to provide feedback. Brainstorm to find creative alternative solutions.
Mathematics - Measure time and distance. Understand the concept of randomness. Compare diameter and rotational speed.

What Ages Can Benefit From Robotics?

We have different programs for different age groups. Robotics is a lot of fun for kids 5 years and older. Our WeDo robotics program is great for elementary school kids whereas our NXT Mindstorm program is for older kids. Our Game Coaches will split the kids in to groups and ensure that each child gets to participate, communicate and learn.
